Part 2: Creating Thinglink VR is a breeze!

Part 2: Creating @Thinglink_EDU #VR is a breeze! | by @EdTechnocation #ARVRinEDU

In my constant exploration for virtual reality resources and tools, I think I've found the holy grail for VR creation! The Thinglink 360° & VR Tool is one of the easiest and most classroom friendly. I've put together a four part blog series. In part 2 find out how easy and amazing the Thinglink VR tool really is!

Creating Thinglink VR is a breeze!

This school year, I've already helped several grade levels at my school with Thinglink VR projects, including 4th and 8th graders and high school! When I sit with teachers to introduce the tool, or when I share about Thinglink VR at conferences and workshops, the most important point I make about the Thinglink VR Editor is that it is literally only 3 buttons to create. It has one of the most simplest user interfaces I've seen compared to other VR editing tools.

The Thinglink VR Editor has only 3 buttons to get started! It's simple and efficient!

The interactive aspect of Thinglink VR comes in the form of tags. I also like to refer to them as clickable or tappable bubbles that add an extra layer of content on top of the 360° VR experience. To the right is the tag creation window. It allows you to create image tags, which can also include text and audio recordings; video tags that can also include text; embed tags that allow you to use any other websites embed code (i.e. YouTube videos, Google Docs, Google Slides, etc.); and transition tags that allows you to connect one Thinglink VR project to another.

Check out the Thinglink VR example that I created of my school's rooftop garden on the 4th floor of the Iolani School Sullivan Center for Innovation and Leadership. Look for the tags that contain white arrows. Those are transition tags that will virtually walk you along the garden path and it's made up of six separate Thinglink VR projects.

I've been exploring the use of virtual reality in the classroom for the past two years and have been sharing, presenting, and training on the topic for about a year. Starting in April (and through July) I'll be helping to roll out a series of workshops on VR and Thinglink VR in Hawaii on multiple islands. Join me!

Virtual Reality in Education Resources for Educators

There is so much amazing VR content out there! But I found, in talking with other educators, that it was really difficult and time consuming for them to sort through it all and figure out what's worth keeping and using. So I've developed a #VRinEDU resource website designed specifically for educators! Check it out and click on the image to the right to subscribe to my free VR in EDU Updates Newsletter!
